Knitting
Knitting has become popular again. Maybe it's because it's getting cold outside and we are thinking knitwear or maybe it's just something creative to do. It's not about economics as it's often cheaper to buy a sweater then to make one. I personally love the accessories, the little gloves, hats and scarves!
Rowan have some of my favourite knitting patterns. (I don't knit but my mum is an amazing knitter - which is why I probably don't knit - I never needed to!) Rowan Studio offers some very fashion forward patterns - from capes to cardigans - you'd never think that knitwear could be sexy but it can!
Future Publishing is introducing a new magazine The Knitter in January 2009. It's a monthly glossy magazine targeting the skilled knitter (i.e not me). The 100-page magazine will feature 10 patterns every month and a trend section with catwalk fashions.
Brandon Mably designs knitwear patterns for Vogue Knitting and Rowan Yarns. On December 6th he's giving a workshop at the Fashion and Textile Museum. He will guide participants in choosing a range of colours and how to apply them into a swatch. Intarsia and fairisle will be demonstrated as part of the workshop, along with knitting in your ends. It is open to all levels with experience in basic stocking stitch, which will be used as the main stitch in the workshop!
