Fashion Awareness Direct Winners at Vauxhall Fashion Scout

It's so difficult for a young designer to get a strong start in fashion but this season we've already had the first Fashion Scout Merit Award and VFS continues to offer support and advice for designers throughout the year.

Last week Fashion Awareness Direct presented their annual award at Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

FAD is now in their 8th year and this year 14 fashion students had the opportunity to compete for a £2,000 prize and top industry work placements. The designers were asked to create two looks that explore the brief URBAN HOLOGRAPHIC - Retrofuturism, Refraction and Mirroring of Light.

The judges had to pick the winners from the designers' illustrations - which is a difficult task - it's much easier to sit in the audience and guess the winner from looking at the final results.

The judges!

Paul Costelloe, Designer (on the far right)
Dolly Jones, Editor of Vogue.com (5th from the left)
William Tempest, Designer & Fashion Fringe finalist (4th from the left)
Esther Lutman, Curator of the Space Age exhibition at the V&A
Jeremy Curtis, UK delegate to International Space Exploration Coordination Group, STFC
Martyn Roberts, Director of Vauxhall Fashion Scout
Maria Alvarez, FAD Director
Alicia Stone, winner of the 2008 FAD Competition

Anna Belen Merono of Nottingham Trent University was the winner! FAD received nearly 50 entries for the competition, from 28 colleges & universities from around the UK.

2nd place, Felicity Baggett and 3rd place Camilla Kennedy!

The models were suppose to have Retrofuturism, Refraction and Mirroring of Light look - but the red eye was a fluke!
