An Interview with Fashion Designer Georgia Hardinge!
Georgia Hardinge is the kind of girl you meet and you feel like you've know here for years. She's beautiful, fun and very talented. I has the opportunity to visit her in her studio and chat about what's next for her after such an amazing year!
Will you be showing in February during London Fashion Week?
I'm having a 'Launch Party' to celebrate the opening of my online shop this season instead of a fashion show. I am extremely excited about this as I have three amazing bands performing (to be announced nearer the time) including a DJ set by Mylo. I'm also having an exhibit with Vauxhall Fashion Scout as they have been great supporters of mine since the very beginning. For Paris Fashion week I will be at Tranoi.
Can you tell us anything about your A/W2011 collection? Inspiration, any hints?
I can definitely tell you it is my best collection yet! Lots of highly architectural pieces inspired by my favourite Photographer Joel Peter Witkin.
After from Parsons Paris School of Art and Design in 2008 you moved to London. What was it about London that made you want to set up your label here?
I was born here! As well as this, I know London is the best city for young designers to start their careers in fashion; there is so much opportunity here that you simply can’t access elsewhere such as sponsors and mentoring.
Your cage dress was a huge success! What were the highlights of 2010 for you?
My collection 'Cage' did get a lot of press exposure and it was as a result of this that I was contacted by Charlotte Stockdale to design for the Victoria Secret show in New York. This subsequently led to my receiving Swarovski sponsorship for the collaboration which was great fun as I got to work with lots of heavy crystal embellishments.
L’Oreal commissioned me to make six cage dresses for their Grand Final Trophy Show which featured the models from ‘Britain's Next Top Model’. I also made an incredible film with Spun Production to set the mood of the collection which you can see online. I used a red camera which is the best media you can use for High Quality Film and Video Production and worked alongside a 40 man film crew. It was really exciting.
Also, last season SS2011 during London Fashion Week, I was chosen to take part in Ones To Watch catwalk show which was sponsored by Vauxhall Fashion Scout!
How would you describe your style?
My style comes from a deep fascination with architecture and sculpture of a dark nature.
How do you start your design process?
Draping on miniature mannequins, sculpting, Croquis drawing and sampling prototypes.
What has been the most challenging aspect of setting up your label?
The legal and business side has certainly been the most challenging! Its tough and least exciting but an extremely important part of opening your label. 
What is your cat called?
Lilly...she came with her name from the cat home. She’s 18 years old – an ‘old lady name’ for a lovely ‘old lady’!!
