Visiting the Medieval City of Wells in Somerset
It's important to be inspired so I was quite delighted to visit the medieval city of Wells in Somerset. It's the smallest city in England and the 2nd smallest in the UK, with just over 11,000 people. In England you have to have a cathedral to be called a city. Parts of the cathedral date back to the tenth century and it took over 400 years to complete. I stayed at The Crown, a 15th century, Grade II listed coaching inn. It's famous because William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania stayed in there shortly before leaving for America in 1682 (I had a burger named after him). More recently it become even more popular as the exterior of The Crown was in the film Hot Fuzz.Loved this film!Penn Beef BurgerThe Crown is believed to have been built about 1450.The Vicars' Close facing the cathedral is the oldest residential street in Europe and of course it's really charming.
