Visiting Jakarta: Day 3
Today we had a production meeting with our team as tomorrow we're doing a fashion film. I'm working with a new designer, Norma Hauri, who designs Muslim wear. Â In Indonesia there are stylists who specialize in the hijab (the head scarf) as there are so many different ways of wearing it - fortunately Norma is also a hijab stylist. Â The Muslim fashion industry is estimated to be worth about $100 Billion. In Indonesia it employs more than 3 million people in the garment industry and it contributes $15 billion to the economy.
Designers in Indonesia generally make one collection per year as the weather is the same temperature for most of the year so they don't have a summer and a winter season. Jakarta Fashion Week takes place in November and last year had over 50 shows.
The images of the models are from a fashion show that we saw this evening featuring 3 designers, Jeffry Tang, Cynthia Tan and Albert Yanuar. I've including pictures of flower boards - I'm not sure if they are considered advertising or a thank you card of sorts. Traditionally flower boards are given at weddings.
It's hard not to take photos of the traffic here. It's not quite chaos but there is just so much of it and you never seem to know how long it will take to get anywhere. It's hard to estimate as a journey that's taken 20 minutes can take 1.5 hours at the same time the next day...
Flower boards!
Four people on a moped - but we've seen up to five!
