J Smith Esquire

I love hats and I was quite excited to see J Smith Esquire's new collection. I first saw his work in 2007  when he graduated from the Royal College of Art. Since then he been showing in Paris, London and Milan and has collaborated with Stella McCartney, Moschino, Manish Aurora and Aganovich.Hats need to be functional and practical - meaning they need to be wearable but it's the aesthetic, the design that truly delights. Hats are like jewellery, they are personal and the wearer has to love piece. We might buy a top because it's nice, it fits, it's on sale but a hat wearer will only buy a hat because they love it (I think it's hard to wear something on my head if I don't love it, otherwise it's all a bit ridiculous). There were some whimsical hats in this collection including a cat hat (I've never seen a cat hat before, which might sound quite impractical but it's light and easy to wear), a very sparkly swarovski crystal gold hat and a top hat lit with bats.J Smith Esquire
