Wearing Rings like Armour

I feel protected wearing my wedding ring and I've started wearing more rings. I wear them like armour, they some how save me a little bit. I can't explain it. I think it's just something that jewellery has the power to do. Jewellery was first made from shells, stone and bones that survives from prehistoric times. You can see some pieces in the V & A.. we have always been adorning ourselves.For the past several years I've been working with head jewellery designer Amina Ghali at Azza Fahmy, one of Egypt's leading jewellery makers. She studied Contemporary Jewellery in Italy at Alchemia school, followed by a BA in Jewellery Design and Silversmith at the University of Central England (Birmingham). Amina designed the Key of Life ring, it's handmade and set with diamonds and colourful stones, in 18kt gold and sterling silver. The Key of Life is a representaion of eternal life born centuries ago in the heart of Ancient Egypt. When I first put this ring on I didn't want to take it off. It was like armour, it kept me safe and now a year later it still kept me safe but feels more joyous. Often our reaction to jewellery is quite visceral, most of us don't know why we like it, we just do and that's enough of a reason to adorn ourselves.
