10 things you should know if you want to be a Fashion Stylist
- Learn how to follow a brief.
- It's not about how good you look and your style. It's about how good you make other people look.
- Find your team - your photographer, hairstylist, make-up artist and nail artist. It's all about teamwork - be a team player.
- You will become highly organised. Be nice to PRS - return things on time - the pr doesn't have to loan anything to you, give them a reason to loan to you.
- It's important to make contacts but it's even more important to make friends. Don't bother being fake everyone can see through it.
- No matter how good you are, you're probably always do some jobs for free and there will always be somebody better than you.
- Not all fashion styling is creative sometimes it's the most uncreative jobs that pay you the most.
- No need for a gym membership as you will drag a suitcase everywhere. You'll aslo become an excellent at packing and discover various ways of closing a very stuff case.
- Doesn't matter if you produced the whole shoot, spent weeks coming up with the concept, painting sets, sourcing the clothes - the photographer owns the copyright.
- Your styling kit becomes magical, it's not just full of tape, needles and thread, pins, clips and chicken fillets - overtime it will be full of secrets of how to customise a garment within seconds.
