Backstage at The Clothes Show Live
One of my favourite jobs that I do in the UK is run the makeup team for the backstage fashion theatre for the Clothes Show. I ran the backstage for the London show. I had almost 40 models and dancers to look after, a team of 15 assistants, various celebrity presenters popping through each day such as George and Larry Lamb, Nicki Hambleton Jones and the new hot "it" girl singer of the moment - Esme (she's on Destiny Child's Kelly Rolland's label in the USA and she just finished recording with Justin Timberlake).
Needless to say it's a production of mammoth proportions. Add to that, that it's not just one fashion show but 7 per day that last 45 minutes long with various costume and scene changes... and only about a 20 minute brake in between each show. The show this year was sponsored by Benefit, AOFM, Jessica Nails and RUSH for L'oreal. I spent months before preparing and planning along with the production team. There were 2 major looks for the show regarding the makeup. The dancers sported very Egyptian/ cat eye's style black liquid eye liner and wore hot pink lipstick by Benefit call Nice Knickers and the models were done up in sexy oversized silver smoky eyes with Benefit's coral toned lipstick in My Treat. I also did a makeup demo on the Style Stage both the Friday and Saturday to show audience members how to achieve this look for themselves.
What I enjoy most about this job is that all the models, dancers, dressers come together and hang like a little family — there are a lot of laughs and good times backstage. I cant wait until December to work on the next production or the Birmingham Clothes Show!
