Kensington Palace Summer Garden Party
It was a perfect evening for the Kensington Palace Summer Garden Party. As you walked into the sunken garden we where served an Old Fashioned and then we headed off to the Orangerie were you could enjoy 50's British delicacies like Spam! The dress code was 1950s glamour/palace chic, best frocks and sharpest suits, early Beatles vs Stones which gave the event a quintessentially quirky English feel.
Etiquette tips and party tales took place on the palace lawn. You had your choice of picnic blankets to choose from. We headed to the picnic blanket with magazine and etiquette books while watching people bowl. You could head inside Kensington Place and see the exhibition Fashion Rules - a selection of 50s - 80's dresses belonging to HM Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret and Diana, Princess of Wales. During the exhibition illustrator David Poole was doing portraits on his i-Pad - the queue was a bit long but everyone was friendly and chatting to one another. It's quite refreshing to have strangers chatting to one another - it's what you would hope would happen at a garden party. During the evening there was lots of entertainment, from the hoola hoop troupe Marawa's Majorettes to DJ sets with Gabby Young And Other Animals!
